Love is a beautiful thing, but it’s also fun and a little bit goofy. So I really enjoy photographing couples when they let their silly sides out. And this was absolutely the case with Jason & Devin’s Laguna Beach engagement photography.

It’s not every day you get to capture your own family’s romantic milestones! After photographing my brother’s surprise proposal to his fiancée in Olympic National Park, we had to keep the trend going. So the three of us headed to Laguna Beach for an engagement session.

Capturing these two was fun. The engaged couple started with matching white Ts and jeans. That classic casual style is super charming. While I certainly posed Jason & Devin for a mix of romantic embraces and serious photos, the two took every chance they could to make each other laugh.

I especially love the photos of Jason & Devin on the picnic blanket or leaning against the oceanside walls. Everything about the moment screamed romantic, joyful love.

One clever way to extend the value of an engagement photoshoot is an outfit change. A quick swap of tops and trousers makes it feel like you get two shoots in one.

We had plenty of time to explore the beach and watch yet another beautiful sunset in Laguna Beach.

Seeing these photos posted on their walls at home and on save-the-dates and invites was such a joy.

Tips for Your Laguna Beach Engagement Session

Here are a few things to know when heading to the beach for your engagement session:

Work with your photographer regarding locations and permits. Did you know most beaches in California require a permit for engagement photos? That’s why it’s important to hire someone with local knowledge.
Practice Leave No Trace. Keep the beach beautiful—pack everything out! Don’t assume there’s a trash can at the beach; bring a bag to take everything with you.
Avoid crowds & parking. Laguna Beach is busy all year round. Even gloomy days will have surfers and tidepoolers. Come on a weekday to avoid crowds and be prepared for difficulty parking.
