Laguna Beach Proposal Photos

Griffin & Jenevie

I adore being a professional photographer because it’s a way of lending my talents to capturing couples’ most cherished moments. And sometimes, I’m even lucky enough to photograph friends and family.

For instance, I had the pleasure of taking Griffin & Jenevie’s wedding proposal photos in Laguna Beach. Griffin is actually a close friend of my brother. I’ve hung out with him and his girlfriend plenty of times. So, when he asked me to photograph his surprise proposal, I knew I had to be sneaky about it. I didn’t want Jenevie to spot me before Griffin had the chance to pop the question!

I usually like to dress professionally for my shoots. But wanting to keep things on the down-low, I chose a very casual outfit instead. My hair is often a dead giveaway, so I put on a big hat and sunglasses—all so Jenevie wouldn’t recognize me.

But that’s just my side of the story. Griffin had the harder job. I’ve never proposed to anyone before (my husband popped the question). But I understand it can be a bit nerve-wracking, even if you’re sure things will end in a “yes!”

Griffin told Jenevie they were going to a nice dinner, so they were both dressed up. Having some time in the schedule, Griffin suggested watching the sunset on the beach in Laguna.

After Griffin gave me the silent go-signal—locking eyes, slight nod, you know the look—he led his girlfriend to the ocean. He got down on one knee, and she lit up!

Yes, things worked out perfectly. He spoke some lovely words, and Jenevie, of course, said yes!

Griffin gestured towards me, walking up with my camera. Turns out my disguise worked, cause Jenevie didn’t even realize I was there.

After the excitement and all of the tears, we spent the rest of the evening taking photos on this iconic beach. After that, I left the fiancés to head to their dinner. What a beautiful day for a proposal.

Tips for Your Laguna Beach Proposal

From proposing to having a photoshoot on the beach, here are a few things to know when planning a marriage proposal:

  • Hire a photographer with experience: Laguna Beach is beautiful, so you definitely want to hire a photographer. Preferably one with insight into the best beaches for your photoshoot based on tides, crowds, and permits.

  • Come early and during off-season: Laguna Beach is notoriously busy. Come early, or have your proposal or photoshoot on a weekday between September and May for fewer crowds.

  • Hash out your plans ahead of time. Whether you want it to be just you two, or have friends appear from the woodwork, it’s good to start with a plan.
