Joshua Tree Couples Photo Session

Allie + Isaak

Sunrise in Joshua Tree National Park is next level beautiful. The crowds haven’t arrived yet, and the desert offers a still, calming silence. Waking up for moments like these feels like you are the first souls to see the world. That unspoiled splendor is one of the feelings I live for, and one of the delights for couples who hire me for photography sessions.

I met up with Allie & Isaak just as the sun peeked its yellow head above the horizon. The two were already married, but they wanted a special post-wedding photoshoot to capture their romance—in a location they adore. Instead of it being a big to-do. They preferred the day to be just the two of them. How wonderful!

We sauntered through the park together in the early morning, making sure to capture plenty of cute moments along the way. Allie even wore a “just married” jean jacket—which really added some pop to the pictures.

Despite a chilly start to the day, Allie & Isaak found a way to keep warm. Cuddling into each others arms or spinning each other to keep warm.

Tips for Your Joshua Tree Couples Session

Here are a few things to know when planning your Joshua Tree couple’s session:

  • Work with your photographer regarding locations, permits, and time of day. There are plenty of beautiful places for a photography session in Joshua Tree. But there’s something to know about each location. A photographer will help you navigate crowds, the best time of day, local restrictions, and permitting.

  • Practice Leave No Trace when getting married outdoors. Keep the natural world happy and healthy by following LNT guidelines: like packing out what you pack in, staying on trails, and respecting the local flora and fauna. Pro tip: Don’t hang anything on a Joshua Tree!

  • Consider the timing. For example, weekdays are less busy than weekends. As for seasonality, summer can be hot, spring and early autumn are quite lovely, and winter is more gentle than in higher elevations. What to Expect When Getting Married in a National Park >

  • Looking for adventure and activities? If so, Joshua Tree is a great spot for all sorts of outdoor fun! Talk with your photographer about including tons of activities such as exploring a dirt road, driving a classic car, rock climbing, slack-lining, picnicking, and more!

Meet Your Joshua Tree Couples Session Photographer

I'm Diana, a Joshua Tree local and California-born adventurer with a camera for a hand and an inborn love for the outdoors. I'm a professional photographer of 21 years and counting and I’ve captured many photography sessions in Joshua Tree.

How did I get into wedding and elopement photography? In 2019, I hired adventure photographers for my own wedding and they showed me there’s a different, more personal way to get married. It was such a special day, I want to bring it to so many more couples who believe in getting married their own way.
