Palm Springs Wedding: Falling in Love With Weird Elopements

You Should Have the “Far Out” Elopement of Your Dreams

As a nomad, photographer, and vanlifer, I love roadside oddities. Whether a makeshift UFO, giant pistachio, or pink dinosaur—these wild and weird attractions break up the monotony of a long drive with a bit of local flavor.

I’m not alone in my affinity for the wild and weird, of course. Our couple Zach and Val wanted their wedding photography to be anything but conventional. The result was an elopement unlike any other.

Let’s cover Zach and Val’s big day and what you can do for your own wild and weird wedding.

The Wild & Weird Palm Springs Elopement

Like a lot of wedding photoshoots, this one started with our couple getting ready. But unlike my other photoshoots, this one was far out. The Airbnb was delightfully decked out with disco balls and hardwood to strike a 1970s aesthetic. Cuter still was Zach and Val who dressed to match the motif. This was an absolute delight to photograph. Not only because our couple was as cute as can be, but also because of the cozy atmosphere.

For the ceremony itself, we traveled to the Elks Club in Palm Springs. The ceremony was private, tiny, and intimate. Something special and personal for the couple to enjoy together. But the newlyweds wanted to snap some pics in the parking lot.

The day ended with a cake cutting in front of the Cabazon Dinosaurs, recently painted for Valentine’s Day. Equal parts funky and fresh—I just can’t get enough of these elopement photos.

The Case for a Wild and Weird Elopement in Palm Springs

You may be reading this blog and thinking how weird or different this elopement is. And that’s absolutely right!

This isn’t the kind of wedding you saw or experienced growing up. Maybe you didn’t even know you could do it this way. But I hope that seeing these images opens you up to enjoying your wedding, your way.

Unlike traditional weddings, elopements give you the ability to truly realize what your wedding day could be. There are no “should dos” or “must-haves.” Instead, it’s all about you, your soon-to-be spouse, and your vision for the perfect celebration of your love. I adore elopements and small weddings because it puts authenticity ahead of expectations.

So, if you’re reading this and planning your own weird and wild wedding, take a moment to consider what it is you really want out of your day. Are your choices reflecting just that? Do your vendors and location reflect who you and your partner are? Are you stressing about a big wedding that feels hollow to you, that feels like it’s for everyone else and not yourself? Trust me—elope. Have the wedding YOU want in just the way you want it. You won’t regret it.
