Feeling at Home in Joshua Tree National Park: A Bridal Session Photoshoot

When you’re on the road as often as I am, the feeling of “home” is sometimes hard to come by. But even so, I sometimes find myself settling into surrogate homes—places that feel like home even if I am just visiting. And no place feels more like home to me than Joshua Tree, California.

I appreciate all my inquiries, but I get especially excited when I’m asked to photograph a couple in Joshua Tree National Park. The scenery is stunning—from the crooked and wild Joshua trees to the sloping boulders, there is just so much to see. And I know my couples love to explore the landscape and kick up some dust.

It was no different for Sam and Jared’s bridal session. I spent a beautiful evening with this couple for their bridal session.

Sam and Jared were about to move out of California. She was attending school in another state and he was following her after serving in the military. But before leaving the Golden State for good, they wanted to capture their love in a place they called home for years.

To make the moment all the more special, Sam donned her wedding dress for a bridal shoot.

Later in the evening, Sam changed into this lovely, dark blue number.

That’s the fun part about your outdoor elopement or adventure couple’s photoshoot. You can wear exactly what you want!

We spent the afternoon and evening together, enjoying the sunset, feeling the cool spring air, scrambling among the boulders, and scampering among the Joshua trees. When the wind picked up around dusk, we decided to call it a day. It was a wonderful few hours of laughing, hiking, and sharing memories in this special location.

Yes, Joshua Tree National Park is one of my favorite places to photograph. I eloped with my husband here years ago. And we regularly visit the area for weddings, photoshoots, or even to just take time for ourselves.

It’s such a beautiful park that I went ahead and created this guide for couples to have a similarly amazing experience. Check out our Joshua Tree Elopement Guide!
